Marriage is good for your heart health

Are you interested in reducing the risk of having a heart attack?  Get married. 

That’s the results of a Finnish study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.  The researchers found that there was an increased risk of fatal and non-fatal heart attacks in both men and women regardless of age if they were unmarried than for those who were married.  Conversely the study also found that married and cohabiting couples had a better outcome when they did suffer acute cardiac events both before and after reaching the hospital.

The study authors suggest that it may be that the types of people who remain single or get married may be the reason for the results.  For instance it might be that people in poor health are more likely to get divorced or remain single, married people might have healthier habits or that having a partner increased your care levels before, during and after a cardiac event.  Read the entire article here.
